It feels like I only wrote what to do with the kids over February half term yesterday, but it’s true the Easter holidays are fast approaching and if like me you’re thinking ‘what shall I do for two weeks’ then hopefully this roundup of free and paid activities will help!
What to do over the Easter holidays with the kids in Surrey
1) Go and find the Spring flowers
There are so many places in Surrey where you can catch Spring in all its beauty. Here are my top picks, RHS Wisley for floral displays around every corner and activities for kids, Winkworth for bluebells and rhododendrons, Painshill for daffodils and bluebells (around April), Claremont landscape garden, Hatchlands Park another National Trust property is beautiful in the Spring, Guildford castle is always stunning as soon as the flowers bloom and finally Bushy Park has a woodland gardens trail.
2) Drusillas Park
Not quite in Surrey but within easy driving distance is Drusillas Park. They are opening a new ride on the 6th April called the Rainforest Carousel. It’s a beautiful children’s ride that has over 30 rainforest animals to sit upon including an anteater, a sloth, a jaguar and a river dolphin! Visitors will get to climb upon their favourite animal and be enchanted by the wonders of the rainforest as they soar up and down on this classic ride with a captivating jungle twist. You can also find a zoo and other wonderful attractions for children. Extra special Easter activities include meet and greet with Hey Duggee (10th April) Peter Rabbit (17th April) and PJ Mask (22nd April).
3) Brooklands Museum
Head down to Brooklands Museum this Easter Holiday for an action-packed day out for the whole family, running weekdays from the 8th to 18th April. Car rides will be operating from 11am-1pm and from 2-4pm (subject to weather). They will also be running an Easter trail where you can hunt for clues around the Museum. Alternatively, try out one of their fantastic free drop-in family workshops, take a fun family tour of their motoring or aviation collection or stop off at their special show ‘Fun with Forces’. London Bus Museum will run double-decker bus rides throughout the holiday too.
Kids go free on 4D rides from the 19th – 22nd April.
4) Watt’s Gallery Artist Village
Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village is a unique art gallery and heritage site consisting of historic Arts & Crafts buildings, learning studios for art and pottery workshops, an award-winning Tea Shop and beautifully landscaped woodlands and grounds. A perfect stop for older children looking to learn over the holidays.
5) Skywalk Esher
Over the Easter Holidays, Skywalk Adventure in Esher, Surrey are offering a treat, filled adventure with lots of chocolates and surprises.
From the 8th April – 21 21 April, every Skywalker will get a FREE Easter Egg included in the normal price! There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt through the trees with prizes for the most eggs. Also an Easter-Themed Photobooth, a monster egg raffle and fancy dress.
6) Squires Garden Centres
- Plant An Easter Container (£6) – Children can plant a colourful watering can or bucket with succulents, and then decorate the container with Easter stickers.
- Spring Hunt – Receive a sweet treat! (£2) – Look for clues around the garden centre to help find the magic word. All correct answers receive a gourmet chocolate pizza slice!
There’s no need to book for either activity, simply turn up on the day. Available at all Squire’s Garden Centres excluding Chertsey.
7) Build a buddy at The Heart Shopping
The build a buddy free workshop will take place on Saturday 20th April 2019 between 10am and 4pm inside The Heart Shopping Centre. This Easter themed event will give children of all ages the chance to create their own soft toy from scratch and learn how to stuff and sew their choice of an Easter Lamb, Bunny or Chick to take home. In addition, little ones can add a unique edge to their buddy by designing it’s very own t-shirt and giving it a name certificate.
To ensure all children who attend can take part they ask that you pre-book a time slot for this activity. Slots are available every 30 minutes – sessions are limited to 15 children per session. To book click here.
8) Bocketts Farm
The Easter EGGSTRAVAGANZA is running from 6th – 23rd April 2019.
This Easter over 350 gorgeous newborn lambs are due in their Animal Discovery Barn. You can also ‘Meet the Shepherd’ in sessions throughout the day. An opportunity to learn all about our sheep and lambs!
Don’t miss the gorgeous baby chicks and ducklings in their small animal village. They will also have an Easter stamp trail with a yummy chocolate treat for each child.
If that isn’t enough to keep little ones amused they also have an Easter Craft Corner with badges and colouring sheets, a boogie session in the Disco Den and a full programme of fun farm activities with Animal Handling, Goat Milking, Tractor Rides, Pony Rides and Pig Races.

9) Wisley RHS Garden
Wisley is the perfect place for a day out this Easter. The garden is bursting into bloom and there’s a fun family activity every day.
There are activities like Rhyming Rabbit trails, Storytelling throughout the day, sow and Grow sessions where children can Plant ‘Bunny Tail’ seeds to take home, face Painting in the Glasshouse Gallery, craft sessions, Plant Explorers Walks and much more.
10) Albury Vineyard
Visit Albury Vineyard this Easter for a family-friendly open day with self-guided tours of the vineyard and tastings of Albury Vineyard’s award-winning sparkling wines (what more could you want)!! They are also putting on a vineyard ‘bunny run’ toy trail, with craft activities, and chocolate of course.
11) Painshill Park
On Sunday 21 April take a walk through beautiful Painshill Park while taking part in a Chocolate Treasure Hunt. Discover spring flowers, magical follies and use your detective skills to crack the clues and find the eggs.
Over the Easter holidays, children will be able to discover and explore the outdoors at Painshills Wild Easter Day Camp. Wild Camps at Painshill are fun packed outdoor days with running, climbing, playing, making friends and developing practical woodland skills.
Painshill is also hosting a craft workshop this Easter. Drop into the Abercorn Room before taking your walk on Saturday 20 April and try your hand at making an Easter Bunny Hat. Finally, there will be afternoon tea served on Friday 19th or Monday 22nd April alongside decorating your own edible eggs.
12) Polesden Lacey & Claremont National Trust
Cadbury is supporting the National Trust to host this year’s Easter Trail at various properties. The hunt at Polesden Lacey will run right through the Easter school holidays and at Claremont take on a nature-themed trail around the garden to find the Cadbury Easter eggs. Normal property admission price applies, plus £3 per trail.
13) A Week-Long Easter Bonanza at The Bentall Centre
The Bentall Centre has lots of fun activities for all the family from the 11th-18th April. The centre is transforming its lower ground floor into a spring-themed garden, with bunnies, eggs and beautiful flowers all adding to the exciting holiday atmosphere while you shop.
Kick starting the week there will be themed facepainting, where children can be transformed into fun brightly coloured Easter characters, from spring chicks to the Easter Bunny himself! The facepainting team will be in the Easter set on the lower ground floor from 11am to 5pm on 11th April and a £5 donation will go towards the centre’s charity of the year, Kingston Hospital.
On Thursday 18th April from 11am to 5pm, families are invited to create adorable personalised Easter Bunny plant pot displays, but can you find the Easter Bunny?! Children will be able to decorate the pots in lots of colours and patterns and even take a home a few yummy chocolate eggs too, plus a mini Easter Bunny will be hidden away in the pot, as he searches for chocolatey treats!
14) White rabbit Easter egg hunt in Guildford
If you’re local to Guildford from Monday 15th April – Thursday 18th April, Experience Guildford will be releasing two cryptic clues a day across Facebook and Twitter (@ExperienceGford) letting you know which town centre businesses the White Rabbit will be visiting.
All you have to do is be the first one to solve it and find where the White Rabbit is hiding to be able to claim one of the 8 x Easter goodie bags.
15) My Little Unicorn
The My Little Unicorn team, situated in Ash Green on the Surrey/Hampshire border will be having lots of this fun in their Woodland Wonderland this Easter, with pretty unicorns to ride and groom, fun Easter-themed games, more goodies than you could imagine and of course our EGGciting Easter Egg Hunt.
Not only will you be searching for eggs but also for the Unicorns and the bunnies carrots too! You will need to book as spaces are limited.
16) Gatton Park
Gatton Park will be running an Easter egg hunt in the beautiful Edwardian gardens where families can look for clues to win chocolate eggs. You can also enjoy Easter crafts, face painting and games in Gatton Hall. Sunday 21 & Monday 22 April 1-5pm. Adults £5, children free; no booking required.
17) Godstone Farm
Join the team at Godstone Farm from Saturday 6th April – Monday 22nd April for a full range of activities and family fun. You’ll be able to see lambs and chicks hatching. Little ones can get close to furry and feathered friends in scheduled activities throughout the day.
There will also be races where you can cheer on your rubber duck, you can help braid miniature Shetland ponies and meet the Farm mascots – Bubbles the bunny and Shelly the sheep.
Over the Easter weekend (19th to 22nd April) Godstone Farm will also be running their Mega Egg Dash, with a prize every time!
18) Shalford Mill
Shalford Mill will be running a Wonderland themed trail. You can follow the white rabbit and find clues from Alice in Wonderland. Those with enough points can win a chocolate egg to take home.
Throughout the holidays (April 8 – 23) Hobbledown has an action packed line-up to keep the whole family entertained.
For Easter weekend itself [Good Friday to Easter Monday *19th to 22nd*] come along and enjoy the following:
- A family Easter Egg Hunt
- Twice daily performances of puppet show ‘The Easter Egg’ at 11:30am and 3:30pm
- Catch a bunny’s tail and other traditional games
- Arty activities in their Easter themed Creation Station (11am to 3pm)
- Animal feedings / talks / petting
All activities are included in the general admission fee.
20) Marwell Zoo
We love Marwell Zoo and although out of Surrey we think it is worth the drive. From the 5th April Marwell starts their LEGO BRICKOSAURS!
This spectacular interactive expedition is created with more than two million LEGO® bricks and highlights include: Free BRICKOSAURS! trail to track down all of the dinosaurs, the largest touring LEGO brick dinosaur model ever made – a whopping eight-metre Tyrannosaurus rex and an adventure to find ‘Colin’ and his many Compsognathus companions – these are very cheeky little dinosaurs who will be getting up to lots of mischief!
