Prepping For Your Childs School Trip

August 2, 2018

I have so many amazing memories of going on school trips as a child, the adventure, travelling with friends and the excitement of seeing somewhere new. Now I’m a parent I can’t wait for my children to experience the same that I did when I was a child, but I know I’ll be nervous.

If your child is going on a school trip, what should you be thinking about?

What to pack

If your child is skiing they’ll need a very different bag packed than group sports tours where they’ll travel to a warmer climate for example. The school and the travel company the school is using will be able to advise, but if you’re unsure make sure you ask to double check they’ll have everything they need.

It will go quickly

Naturally as a parent you will worry when they’re away, but it’s such a good experience for your child to learn how to be independent and look after them self.

Enjoy the time off

Embrace the freedom for a week, you’ll get to spend more time with younger siblings and your partner, so enjoy the time.

It’s something to talk about

Your child will be creating amazing memories so enjoy hearing all about them when they’re back. You could also work together to pull together a diary or collage of everything they’ve done. I wish I had done that as a child as my memories of my trips are a little hazy now!

Talk to them about safety

An important one and something they might think is boring, but they will be abroad and although with staff they need to be aware of how to look after themselves so a quick conversation will be really important.
Has your child been away on a school trip? How did you both find it?
