How To Still Feel Like Yourself While Being A Great Mum

May 31, 2018

When you have children, everything changes. Life as you know it will never be the same again – but that’s never a bad thing. Because being a mum is the greatest experience in the world. Sure it can be challenging and you may even have days where you’re feeling fed up and frustrated, but it shouldn’t always be like that.

Sometimes, the reason you can find parenting hard is because you lose yourself. When you give it your all, you sometimes forget that you’re a person too. You suddenly become ‘mum’ and not just ‘you’. However, you can totally be an amazing mother and still feel like yourself. You do not have to lose who you are in parenting. So let’s take a look at what you can do to get that back.

  1. Have That ‘Me’ Time

It can seem selfish to want time to yourself, but it’s vital if you’re going to stay sane and do a good job! You can’t just focus on your children’s’ needs and what they want you for. You’ll go crazy. By all means, be a hands-on mother and make sure that your kids are happy, but you need to make time for yourself too. If you don’t you will eventually burn out. So think about having an hour to yourself in the evening to relax, have a bath, or catch up with friends. Don’t do housework because the kids are in bed and you see a window. That can wait.

  1. Don’t Be Bad For Working

If you want to be a working mum, never feel bad about that. Instead, think about how you can balance a job that you love with your parenting responsibilities. Take a look at what jobs are available with resources like Pure Staff recruitment agency and see if anything will suit your lifestyle. Whatever works for you will be right. Having that work time to yourself is always important if your career is important to you.

  1. Share The Responsibilities

Maybe you’ve lost a sense of who you are because you’re doing too much. If you are the main caregiver and you run the household, something’s got to give. You have to be a parenting team and not feel like you’re doing it all. So have that all-important talk with your spouse.

  1. Have A Hobby

It’s also a really great idea to have a hobby. If you have something for you that you love, it will often help to make you feel more fulfilled. Think about choosing a hobby that you can get excited about. It’s okay to have interests outside of your children. And having that balance will often mean you get more satisfaction out of being a great mum too.

  1. Focus On Your Health

Finally, you also need to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself. Don’t put yourself last – especially not health wise. Remember, you need to be happy and healthy in order to ensure that your children can be happy and healthy too.
