Teething…

March 12, 2017

Teething is one of those things I blame everything on; she’s a little grumpy – it must be teeth, she’s not settling – maybe it’s her teeth, she’s got nappy rash – teething. You get the idea, for most things I blame teeth. I joke about it but it’s definitely not funny for our little ones, when I have a tooth ache its the worst thing ever and I am on the phone to the dentist asap so I can really sympathise with our babies.

Unfortunately I think Evie is definitely starting to teethe. I don’t think she’ll be cutting a tooth anytime soon but I think they are all starting to move around. The tale tale signs are there, red cheeks, lots of dribble, chewing on everything (even a felt tip pen Amelie gave her ops) and being a little out of sorts. Even more unfortunately for me this means I now have two little ones who are teething as Amelie’s back teeth are still not through!

I’ve been through this once with Amelie so I have a few tricks up my sleeve to help them so I thought I would share as I have seen lots of posts recently about babies and teeth.

Teething powders

I personally don’t like things like Bonjela, I just never felt like they worked for Amelie but one thing I really do think works are teething powders. The ones I use are ‘teetha granules’ and if you can manage to get them in your little ones mouth I really do think they help and take some of the pain away. Evie always calms down after one of these if she is getting really agitated and chewing lots.

Runny noses

I don’t know about your little ones but as soon as Amelie starts teething she gets a runny nose, which as you know can then develop into a cough if they can’t blow their nose. As soon as I hear her sniffing I make sure I put on a Calpol vapouriser on at night, get the saline drops ready and rub some snuffle babe into her chest before bed… I find this just stops any of the snuffles getting too bad and potential causing chest infections etc.

If it gets really bad, Calpol is always something good to have in the cupboard.

Nappies and teeth

I know Amelie is teething as soon as she has worse than normal nappies (I can now tell a teething nappy, sorry)!! At times it can give her the worst nappy rash so a few things I have found help; ditch the baby wipes, I find they can really sting so I go back to cotton wool and warm water with a camomile tea bag in it – this really helps with any discomfort. I religiously use Bepanthen nappy cream after day time changes and at night use Metanium. A combination of these usually clears it up fairly quickly.

Teething toys

I love finding new small businesses on Instagram for clothes and baby products – you can see some of my top finds here but recently I have found SO many amazing teething products that Evie loves. These are my favourites:

Teething necklaces: I am now never without a teething necklace. They are brilliant for Evie, she can play with them, pull them and the colours are so vibrant that its a great visual distraction for her if we’re out and she’s getting a little restless.

One brand I have discovered recently is Trendy Mama.*

Holly set Trendy Mama up when she struggled to find teething jewellery that matched her own style and desire for on-trend designs so she came up with her own. I love the pinks and golds in this necklace, perfect for Spring (and someone who loves pink)! Evie is also a big fan – she grabs it and chews it so not only is it a good portable teething toy I can also wear lovely jewellery without worrying about her breaking it or chewing on something that isn’t meant to be chewed!

Blossom and Bear

We love these new teething toys from Blossom and Bear.

We have the rainbow teether and the purple elephant teether and Evie loves them both. I think hew favourite at the moment is the rainbow teether as it is so easy for her to hold onto and the bright colours and different shapes are really good to chew on.

I love the how these teething toys look and they came with a gorgeous A5 poster which I am definitely going to frame… I love them.

Blue ball JoJo Maman Bebe

We love this sensory toy from JoJo Maman Bebe which Evie also likes to use as a teething / chewing toy. There are lots of different textures and materials for babies to explore and chew and Evie loves the little face.

Teether Sainsburys

This teether from Sainsburys is brilliant for little hands. It’s the perfect size for Evie to hold and she loves to chew on the blue teether part.

Lamaze Unicorn

Not your traditional teething toy but Evie has decided this is one of her favourite things to chew! She loves chewing on the purple feet, the wings and the feet.

Sophie le giraffe

These blocks are amazing! They are a really soft material and are smal enough for Evie to hold. She loves to chew the giraffe faces.

Bibs

I personally love Jo Jo Maman Bebe and Cheeky Chompers bibs. I love the Jo Jo ones for the gorgeous materials and the absorbent material and Evie loves the Cheeky Chompers one for the teether at the bottom of the bib.

Fab post! Especially handy as my little one is teething now. He still has no teeth at 7 months but all the symptoms and I feel awful we don’t have alot for him. We’ve been trying Camilia recently which seems to help, but I definitely need a teething necklace and LOVE the one you have! Think I’ll be going to invest in one of those. Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

Teething is a total bitch! On one hand, great – less pureeing needed. On the other, sh*t – everything is horrendous (mood, sleep, skin, nappies, general wellbeing). 2.5 years on, I think I’m still blaming teeth! #marvmondays

Our littlest one has just started teething (no signs of actual teeth yet, but i’m convinced its the start of them!) so this post is very timely for us. We’ve been through it all once before with our three year old, but its amazing how quickly you forget everything. I definitely need to get my hands on some teething jewellery I think, I’ve seen some lovely stuff around 🙂 Fab post, thanks for sharing it on #MarvMondays. Emily
