Getting Ready For The Festive Season [AD]

I love Christmas and everything about the festive season, the magic, the food & drink and spending time with friends and family.

Here are my top five tips for getting ready for the festive season.

1. Get organised

Make a list and make another! I find the festive season is so much easier if everything that we’re doing is written down and everything we need to buy or order is written down. This just helps avoid any last minute panics that you’ve forgotten to make a dessert or bought a secret Santa present.

Something like this organiser from Rachel Ellen or Cath Kidson look fantastic.

And if you don’t want to buy a specific planner, just write everything done on your phone and delete when organised.

2. Order everything in advance

I like to order all of my Christmas food in advance before slots disappear! It also means once everything is planned you can (in theory) sit back and not worry about heading to a supermarket with hundreds of other people!

This year we are going to be ordering our food from Marks and Spencer. We are going to have a little family Christmas as a four before we see all of our family. I really like this idea and it means we can do it our way for a day and then fit into everyone else’s plans / traditions on Christmas Day.

3. Get someone else to make the party food

A party should be just that in my opinion, so I like to take the pressure off! We always see a group of friends before Christmas and to make life easier this year I’ll be ordering canapés and party food from Marks and Spencer food hall. If you’re looking to do the same I have a special code you can use for £5 off when you spend £35 or more on Food to Order service. To redeem the discount use the code TRY5 during checkout on the M&S website.

4. Buy presents and all the wrapping paper before the middle of December

This is easier said than done, but I am trying to get organised earlier now we have little ones. Mostly because lots of the things they love will sell out if I don’t!

5. Decide what festive ‘extras’ you’ll be doing…

There are so many extras you can do over the festive season; elf on the shelf, Christmas Eve boxes… Decide what you’ll be doing early and then get everything ready before the ‘trend’ sells out. These Christmas Eve boxes from Marks and Spencer are gorgeous with a ‘stop here Santa’ colour in sign, a bar of chocolate, chocolate lollypops and a book.

We have festive pj’s and slippers and I am also going to add a personalised bauble to them for the girls – something that they can keep for years I hope!

What do you do to get yourself organised for the festive season?
