A Family City Break In Manchester [AD]

November 7, 2018

City breaks are something my husband and I enjoyed regularly before the girls came along, we got engaged in Paris and one of my favourite trips was a break to Prague.

We’ve spent time in Manchester as a couple but never with children, so when the team at Roomzzz got in touch to see if we wanted to experience everything Manchester has to offer staying in one of their Aparthotels we couldn’t wait! The girls are now a little older, a little more manageable – a little more city break ready…

We decided to take the train up to Manchester, for us this meant a train to Waterloo, a tube and then a Virgin Train to Manchester Piccadilly. We’ve done a fair bit of travelling with the girls, so we went prepared for the journey (albeit lightly as we were having to carry bags across London) and set off on our weekend adventure.

The train journey went better than we expected. Amelie, 4 was a superstar and coloured and looked out of the window. Evie was a little more fidgety and needed to walk around the carriages a little but we both said how easy it was!

When we arrived in Manchester we made the 15 or so minute walk to the Roomzzz Aparthotel in Corn Exchange and we were very happy we had taken our Bugaboo Bee with buggy board as after the journey Amelie was tired and needed to sit down!

When we arrived at the Roomzzz Aparthotel, Corn Exchange building I was really impressed at the beauty of the building and inside didn’t disappoint. A lot of care has clearly been taken care in renovations to restore period features and the layout of the rooms are all individual due to the building.

We made our way to the first floor where we found our two interconnecting rooms. Each room had a large, very comfortable king size bed, a kitchen area, sofa, ensuite bathroom and for us with little ones a cot for Evie and a z bed for Amelie.

We were so impressed with our rooms. Both of them felt spacious, with lots of added convenient extras, phone charging points, a big TV at the end of the bed, a fully equipped kitchen which was perfect for children – we could make food, milk and wash up sippy cups with the washing up liquid and if needed stick things in the dishwasher.

The bathroom in the Roomzzz Aparthotel was modern with a good shower and nice touches such as White Company soaps.

After we had explored the rooms, worked out sleeping arrangements we decided to head down to the Corn Exchange building for a spot of lunch. There are lots of restaurants on site, we chose Pizza Express as we knew the girls would eat something and then headed into the city for a walk.

My husbands family live near Manchester so the rest of the day was spent seeing them and then enjoying a family dinner before heading back to the room for a good nights sleep.

We decided to put Evie and Amelie in one room so we didn’t have to sit in the dark whilst they slept (as you would in a hotel room). This was the ultimate luxury and meant we could have a glass of wine and watch Xfactor!

The next morning we decided to try the hotels grab and go breakfast. The girls loved walking down the stairs in their PJ’s (at 6.30am, much to the amusement of the hotel security) to choose a croissant, yogurt and fruit.

We took it all back to the room and had breakfast in bed – they were in their element, especially when cartoons were put on the TV. The grab and go breakfast is all included as well as coffee and tea so we were also happy!

After breakfast we got ready, packed our bags and decided to make the most of the day in the city. We headed to the Science Museum which came as a top recommendation from lots of people on my Instagram. We weren’t disappointed. It’s a free entry (donations welcome) and there are lots of exhibits for all ages to enjoy – we even learned lots whilst we were there!

After our learning morning we decided to go for lunch at another top recommendation, 20 Stories. We had a delicous lunch and the views were amazing! It was really child friendly for lunch at the weekend with colouring packs so we would definitely recommend this.

And then it was time to get our train home. The weekend absolutely flew and we had the most amazing time with the girls. We thoroughly enjoyed a city break with kids, with a little planning, a great place to stay (with all the amenities you need for little ones) it was really easy and enjoyable.

A big thanks to Roomzzz for having us, we loved the aparthotel and having a kitchen was a game changer, we’ll miss having one at our next hotel stay!
