An Autumn Afternoon Tea At PennyHill Park

October 4, 2018

Pennyhill Park is a luxury hotel and spa based near Bagshot in Surrey. It’s a beautiful hotel, surrounded by acres of countryside and I was thrilled to be invited there yesterday to experience the launch of their Autumn collection Afternoon tea with Sarah Frankland.

Sarah Frankland is an award-winning Pastry Chef and Chocolatier and today, alongside her team, they created one of the most delicious afternoon teas I have ever had.

When we arrived we were welcomed and shown to a beautifully set table near a window which overlooked the Spa’s outdoor swimming pool.

The Autumn menu looked absolutely amazing, so after being offered a glass of champagne and some tea my friend and I tried our first dish, a crab and cavier pastry which set the tone for the whole afternoon tea – exceptional.

Next up was the finger sandwiches and these didn’t disappoint, we had; roast beef, horseradish cream & rocket, Oak smoked salmon and dill creme fraiche, cave aged gruyere & red onion chutney and egg mayonnaise & english watercress.
My favourite had to be the salmon, but the gruyere was also exquisite.

After our sandwiches we moved onto our scones, which are baked in house. They were served warm, with clotted cream and jam and smelt divine.

We loved all the little extra touches we were treated to, a palette cleanser, champagnes paired to the courses – everything was so brilliantly thought out and executed.

Our final treat of the day was the classic pastries which Sarah gave a modern twist.

We had a La Esmeralda ganache tart, with melted chocolate crunch with miso chantilly, a genoise sponge roulade, with blackberry conserve & green apple cremeux, Pennyhill Park honey & lavender whipped ganache with pear compote and Beetroot, orange balsamic granache macaroon! Divine!

After lots of food we both needed a coffee, so we were treated to delicious and well made cappuccinos, perfect for the end of a meal.

If you (unlike me) weren’t able to finish all the treats you could take them home in a gorgeous box ready to share.

After our tea, we went on a little walk around the grounds and had a look at the Spa. The indoor and outdoor pools looked fantastic and there were two outdoor hot hubs, it looked like a very relaxing place for an escape.

A big thank you to Sarah for inviting me to try the new menu. It was absolutely delicious and such a special treat.

We both said we will definitely be back with our Mums (who are both afternoon tea fans) and I am definitely going to try and plan a trip to the amazing looking Spa.
