We were recently invited to The White Hart in Godstone to try their new offering after a big refurbishment. The White Hart is a former coaching inn which dates back to the 16th century. The building is beautiful, overlooking Godstone green and as well as a large restaurant and bar area there is an impressive courtyard and private dining rooms.
We had planned our visit a few weeks in advance and on the day I realised our dinner clashed with one of the England games which was fine with me, but my husband was definitely on edge!
As soon as we arrived we were impressed. The entrance is gorgeous with original features and an impressive wine cellar. Inside we loved how sympathetically it had all been restored with lots of modern additions.
Once we found our table we ordered some drinks and started to look at the menu. You know you’ve found somewhere good when neither of you can decide on food and have numerous options of things that look amazing!
The menu has lots of options from Italian wood-fired pizza (which you can see being made in the restaurant area) to smoke-grilled steaks and Sunday roasts. All of the food is seasonal and I would say reasonably priced for the ingredients.
We decided on a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to accompany our food; a scotch egg for my husband and salmon for me to start and for mains we both went for the steak as it looked so delicious!
The starters were both amazing, I loved the freshness of the salmon which came with a seasonal salad and my husband really enjoyed the scotch egg.
But the winning course for us both was the steak which I’ll go as far as to say was one of the best I’ve had. I had the fillet steak which was cooked beautifully, was of the highest quality and was matched with delicious sides including sweet potato fries and bearnaise sauce.
My husband was equally impressed with his steak, the 18oz Cote de boeuf, which again was beautifully cooked and came with delicious sides.
We were really impressed with all of the food at The White Hart and we’ll definitely be back for another meal. The staff were friendly, food delicious and the venue was beautiful.
