There is something really nice about going out for lunch or brunch isn’t there. Before we had children we used to make it a regular occurrence, but with two little ones who like to keep moving lunching or brunching can be fairly difficult!
We were recently invited to the Bill’s branch in Kingston which is situated right on the River Thames and has a beautiful outlook. In the summer they have tables outside overlooking the river and Kingston bridge so it really is a stunning spot.
We’ve been there before and knew it was family friendly so I put my worries aside, packed nearly the whole bookshelf, an iPad, colouring books, pencils and off we went!
I had booked a table (which they recommend) at 12 which would give us time to have a walk along the river (to wear the girls out) and make sure they had their lunch on time. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly team who showed us our table, right by the windows. Big tick number one as both the girls could watch the world go by and see the river.
They were seriously hungry from the blustery walk so we ordered some bread, hummus and olives for the table. Amelie and Evie loved the bread and it gave us a few minutes to look at the menu.
We decided on two children’s meals which at £6.95 are such good value. It’s a three-course meal which starts with crispy corn tortilla chips, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks and hummus, a choice of mains and a dessert.
The girls decided the tortilla chips were the best thing ever and hummus is always a winner!
For their main Amelie decided on a chicken burger and Evie had fish fingers. There were so many dishes to choose from and the team were very accommodating to Amelie’s ‘I want everything separately’ request.
We decided on a steak (my husband) and a lamb burger with sweet potato fries and a side of guacamole for me.
The food was absolutely delicious. My husband’s steak was cooked perfectly and my burger was so tasty! I am a big fan of sweet potato fries so I was in food heaven!
We managed to squeeze in dessert (well the girls did anyway). I chose a chocolate brownie, as did Amelie and Evie and her Daddy shared some ice cream!
We had the longest meal we’ve had in a long time and it was so enjoyable for us. The girls loved it, they had lots to look at and with the family-friendly atmosphere, no one minded if one of them made noise. It really was the perfect family lunch or brunch location!
We will definitely be back and we hope to enjoy some more family meals in the sunshine (if this cold weather ever goes)!
Thanks to the team at Bill’s Kingston for making us so welcome.
