Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands which are tipped to be one of the best European destinations for a family holiday. With year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches and a short flight (perfect with the kids in tow) the islands and Tenerife are perfect for relaxation and family fun.
So why Tenerife?
With golden beaches and blue waters as far as the eye can see, bordered with restaurants and shops you don’t have to walk far to find lunch, snacks or ice creams for little ones whilst on the beach.
But it’s not all golden sands on Tenerife, you can find a range of natural beauty on the Island with black volcanic beaches at Puerto de la Cruz, huge cliffs at Los Gigantes and Fanabe famed for its watersports.
Family holidays to Tenerife don’t need to just be spent on the beach. Consider hiring a car and visiting Mount Teide, which is the tallest volcano in Europe for the day. You can access the summit by cable car and a the whole trip takes a few hours. We did this before children and it really was amazing, for older children this would be a great day trip.
You can also find boat trips off the South Coast where you can try and spot dolphins. Again, this would be a fantastic day trip with slightly older children.
There is a choice of accommodation for all families, whether you want a villa holiday, a self-catering hotel or an all-inclusive resort. Each resort has lots of choices, so find your base and then think about what kind of holiday you and your family want.
Aqualand in Costa Adeje is a water lovers paradise. You can find dolphin shows, play areas and swimming pools for all the family.
Siam Park is a huge water park with rides and slides suited for slightly older children (or even adults)! The sister park to Siam Park is Loro Parque and features the world’s largest collection of parrots. The park is set within tropical palm groves, with wildlife from parrots, to dolphins and sea lions.
If you want to explore the island, there is lots to see in the towns and villages. Los Gigantes in the west enjoys long sunny days and is a quieter option for families than the South of the island. Puerto de la Cruz in the North of the island is the greenest and the more traditional resort and finally, Santa Cruz can be enjoyed by both beach lovers and those who also want to explore the shops, plazas and art galleries.
Tenerife holidays cater for all the family year round and we can’t wait to go back!
