Redford Farm Barns was our first extended family holiday in quite a long time and with two children I couldn’t think of a better break (childcare anyone)? We don’t live near a lot of our family (bar my sister) so when we get an opportunity to spend a long weekend together it’s amazing.
We recently travelled to Shropshire with my husbands side of the family for a long weekend. His Dad booked what turned out to be one of the most amazing cottages I’ve stayed in.
Redford Farm Barns near to Ludlow is the perfect large (or small) family escape. The property is owned by Rupert and Jude who spent five years lovingly rebuilding it (and living in a caravan).
The two luxury boutique barns are set in 12 acres of land, all of which is wonderful to explore for adults, children and dogs!
There were seven adults and two children in our party, which was perfect for the accommodation. Ludlow Barn sleeps up to 9 people and Tenbury Cottage sleeps 4. They can be rented separately or together for a party of up to 13.
As a family of four it was decided we would stay in the smaller barn so we would be able to get up with the girls and if anyone wanted to stay up late they wouldn’t disturb them. They supplied a fantastic travel cot, a high chair and everything we needed was in the kitchens (including toddler and baby cups and cutlery) which made travelling with the two of them a lot easier.
The larger barn was absolutely stunning and as a family we spent most of the time there playing board games, watching TV and eating and drinking. They had lots of books, games and magazines ready – including games for younger members of the party which was a great surprise.
Everything has been beautifully restored and presented, it really is what if class as ‘boutique’ accommodation.
I loved all the touches, the beautiful kitchens, the home made cake on arrival and fresh eggs from a the farm for our breakfast.
Exploring the grounds
We spent most of our time at Redford Farm Barns exploring the grounds. Amelie loved running around, wellies on, seeing what she could find.
There was lots to keep children amused and you could tell that the owners are parents of three children. There are animals, a zip wire and the most amazing kids caravan, complete with games, a tea set and lots of imaginative play opportunities.
We also loved the outdoor table and BBQ area, which was beautifully lit up at night. We were slightly restricted with the girls bedtimes but the rest of the ‘grown ups’ enjoyed watching the sun go down with a G&T.
Ludlow and surrounding areas
Ludlow is a beautiful place to visit, complete with a castle, outstanding restaurants and a great selection of shops. We spent a morning there and had a lovely lunch, but we could have spent much longer there.
There are also many more rural walks on the doorstep of the barns, English Heritage properties a short drive away and visits to working farms – we needed a week to take it all in!
We had a wonderful long weekend at Redford Farm Barns and we have already penciled in a date for our reunion next year.
