Our trip to Mayfield Lavender Fields

July 11, 2017

We visited Mayfield Lavender Fields this week as I have seen lots of people in the Instagram world taking beautiful photographs there recently. I am never one to shy away from practising my photography, in fact after my recent photography course I am always on the hunt for places to go!

Mayfield Lavender is a 25 acre lavender field with a café and shop located in Banstead , Surrey and you’ll know when you’re there as the purple is visible from the road.

I couldn’t have found a more stunning place to shoot the girls. The sight of the all purple fields when you drive into the farm is quite breath-taking. It’s a sea of purple and on a sunny day, against the blue sky is a photographers dream!

When we arrived Amelie was straight into the fields and loved running up and down the rows of lavender.

Amelie’s favourite colour is purple and I think she was a bit taken aback by how much purple there was, she was really exploring and touching all of the lavender! I was slightly nervous about the bee’s but actually they didn’t disturb us and we left them in peace.

Evie was also really intrigued by our trip, she was mostly interested in crawling along and trying to eat the wood and grass but she enjoyed watching everything going on. I love the shots of the girls together as Amelie tried to explain to Evie why she shouldn’t eat the grass!

A day trip for us isn’t complete without a coffee and cake and luckily Mayfield have a delicious on site cafe with the MOST amazing cakes. Try the lavender cupcake, it is divine!

With two tired little girls it was time to say our farewells to the lavender fields. If you are a budding photographer, a family who want to see something different or just love flowers this really is a must see! The lavender isn’t out forever so do go and visit before it’s gone…

Useful bits

  • Mayfield Lavender is open from June to mid-September, 7 days per week from 9am to 6 pm, but check their website in case in changes
  • The cost is £1 per adult and children are free – you pay by cash when you drive into the fields
  • It gets busy, so plan a trip early!
  • There is a wonderful cafe serving light bites, cakes and drinks. They also have a small shop selling some of the produce from the fields

We’ll be back again soon!

This would be perfect for me! I have in fact been looking around for Lavender fields myself for a cheeky photo op! This may not be terribly far from me in Kent so could be a nice day out for us all. I can’t say I’ve ever eaten anything with lavender in but I know you can, so might give the cupcake a try. Lovely pics and lovely girls.
