My hair makeover at Regis Salon, Kingston

June 11, 2017

As a mama of two little ones I don’t get a huge amount of time for pampering or time to myself so having my hair cut is a real treat.
When I got the opportunity to attend Regis Hairstylists at Bentalls in Kingston to trial the new Smartbond treatment this weekend I didn’t have to think twice, Daddy was given instructions and off I went!

There is nothing nicer than a trip to the hair dressers; sit back, have a (hot) coffee, read magazines, have someone wash your hair (without two babies watching you) and leave feeling like a new Mama!
The salon I went to was the Regis in the Bentall Centre in Kingston. It’s a really friendly, light and airy salon which I learned has been there for 10 years and offers treatments such as massages, waxing and nails. If I could I would have stayed there all day and had my nails done as well!

I was lucky to be there on a sunny Sunday so the salon was fairly quiet which meant I had Dann and also Dani nearly to myself!

Dann, my stylist for the day was really experienced, passionate and made me feel really at ease. As the Smartbond process I was trying is used when you colour your hair I came armed with a Pinterest board to show Dann and he took his time looking through the images with me and giving me advice on what would suit my hair (and my lifestyle) best.

Once we had decided on a style – a sun-kissed balayage Dann got to work mixing the colour. I haven’t had my hair coloured for about 10 years and couldn’t remember the last time I had it cut, so Dann definitely had a challenge!

Before Dann got to work

As Dann started applying the colour he explained the Smartbond process to me as it was something I hadn’t heard of before.

The SmartBond process

In our hair we have bonds; strong bonds and weak bonds. The strong bonds can repair themselves after damage but the weak ones can’t and essentially this can leave damaged hair. The Smartbond process helps repair and protect both bonds whilst colouring without affecting the colour.

It is a simple two-step process in the salon with a third step you can do at home:

* Step one – The Smartbond treatment is mixed in with the colour and applied.

* Step two – Once the colour has taken the stylist will rinse your hair then adds the next stage of the Smartbond process. This is just like having a treatment and sits on the hair for 10 minutes before it is rinsed off and your hair is washed normally.

Step 3 –  There is a treatment you can take home with you to use once a week instead of conditioner. It only needs to be left on for 3 minutes, so for me its perfect as my showers are generally VERY speedy with two little ones waiting for me. This treatment helps keep the condition of the hair and keeps the Smartbond topped up.

Dann had definitely listened to me when we had our chat about my hair and fairly quickly got to grips with my lifestyle…in one word – RUSH. I was really impressed that he had thought of things like applying the colour in a way so that when I tied my hair back it looked natural and not like tiger stripes and that he had considered when I would next be coming to the salon so made the colour look as natural and blended into my hair as possible.

I loved that he had thought about these things for me as I just wouldn’t have thought to have mentioned them (or even known about them).

The cut

It was then onto the cut and finish. I explained how I don’t have time to style my hair on a day to day basis so Dann cut a style that would still give a styled look but be easy for me to leave to dry on days where I just can’t get to the hair dryer!

Once the cut was done Dann dried my hair straight to show me how the colour would look on days when I had time to straighten my hair and then showed me how to curl some messy waves into my hair.

And the finished look…

I love my new hair. I feel like its given me a really needed lift on days when I don’t do much more than run out of the door. It looks really natural and the treatment has made my hair so silky smooth and shiny, I’m really impressed.

I won’t know whether the treatment has repaired any bonds in my hair, but I can definitely feel the difference and friends have noticed it as well!

A big thanks to the team at Regis in Kingston, especially Dann for helping this Mama get a fantastic new summer look.

Sarah xx
